This will be a great way to build your relationship and connection with your food - by hands-on experiencing their farm life and enjoying the fruits and vegetables of their labor (bring cash on the tour day so you can purchase eggs, meat, and the freshest produce!)

2nd Annual Better World Betty Potluck Picnic in the Park
Sunday, September 12, 3-5pm
Riverview Park
(off Chesapeake in the Woolen Mills area)

Betty invites family, friends, volunteers, e-conscious community members of all ages to this potluck picnic. Bring your own reusable bottle, placesetting and potluck to share (we are striving for a zero-waste event)! We will have trash bowling, recycled crafts, face painting as well as raffling off a RAIN BARREL, Brita filter, Trees on Fire goodies, dual flush converter kit, Relay Foods gift basket and EcoDry cleaner gift certificate ($5 each or 5/$20)! This is a free event to the public - raffle funds will go to our four environmental intiatives we want to kick off in Charlottesville next year! See you there.

First Saturday Bird Walk
Saturday, June 5, 7:30 am
Walk with Mary Janet Fowler of the Monticello Bird Club at the peak of spring warbler migration. Beginners are always welcome. Meet in the parking lot.

Drawing from Nature

Saturday, June 12, 10:00 am
Join local artist Lee Alter to explore the art of sketching in a beautiful location at Ivy Creek Natural Area. Bring paper, pencils, and a drawing board if you have one. This offering is free to the public. Meet at the Barn.

Butterflies of Ivy Creek

Sunday, June 13, 1:00 pm
Join Mike Scott for a butterfly walk at the Ivy Creek Natural Area. Start by meeting in the Education Building to see Mike’s impressive display of the butterflies of Ivy Creek and for an introduction to identification skills. Continue on the trails with Mike. Fun for the whole family.

Guided Walk
Saturday, June 19, 10:00 am
Join Ivy Creek nature guides for a one to two hour walk on the trails of Ivy Creek. We’ll share the latest nature has to offer that day. The trail will be determined by the guide and the group. Meet in the parking lot.

Ivy Creek Toddler Time
Thursday, June 24, 10:00 am
Introduce your toddler to nature with this short talk and trail walk for three to five year olds. Volunteer guide Rachel Bush will host, starting in the Education Center at the Ivy Creek Natural Area. The event is free.

Farm and Barn History Day
Saturday, June 26, 2:00 pm
Come enjoy the barn at Ivy Creek Natural Area. This was formerly the showpiece of the working farm known as River View Farm. This is a rare afternoon with the barn open to the public.

Bees, Wasps, and Hornets, oh, my!

Tuesday, June 29, 7:00 pm
Join Peter Warren for a talk on bees, wasps and hornets and their importance to the local environment. Find out how to avoid stings and what to do if you get stung. Meet in the Education Center.

WOODWORKING WITH CHILDREN- Summer Camps
A workshop experience using hand tools. For girls and boys,  5-14.  An introduction to the joy of building.  Beginner and intermediate.  Every finished project is a success.   Open house, June 11, 5 pm-6 pm. 1104 Forest Street, Charlottesville. Times, 9:30-11, 11-12:30, 12:30-2, 2-3:30,  Saturdays, 9:30-12:30 or 12:30- 3:30. Ongoing Monthly Events:

Monthly hikes with Wild Virginia. 
One weekend per month, Wild Virginia sponsors a day hike in the George Washington National Forest, Shenandoah National Park or other natural area.  Hikes are free and open to anyone who is interested, carpooling is encouraged.  Details can be found at www.wildvirginia.org, or 434-971-1553.

BLUE RIDGE COHOUSING OPEN HOUSE
Every Saturday and Sunday, 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Blue Ridge Cohousing is a group of families and single people building an earth-friendly community in Crozet, Virginia. Features will include private energy-efficient homes, shared organic gardens, preserved green space and a community house to help build social ties.
