I’m so happy to welcome Betty’s 2020 intern, Hannah Mast! Hannah is an Environmental Sciences PhD student at the University of Virginia studying the carbon cycle in salt marshes. She wanted to become involved in helping a local organization like Betty that works to help locals make better choices for the environment one friendly step at a time. We’re grateful that first up on her “to do” list is to give a refresh to our Donate/Recycling database so that we provide the most up to date and accurate information!
Here’s more about Hannah in her own words.
When I’m not studying, I love all the active outdoorsy things, running, cooking, and watercolor painting! I grew up in Wisconsin and am often craving a cold winter day. I’m passionate about the science surrounding climate change and making it easier for people to live a more sustainable lifestyle! I’m excited to join Better World Betty’s team and help the people of Charlottesville make more environmental friendly choices.
What’s your favorite Betty activity?
I bike 20 minutes everyday into school and try to bike to places whenever I can. It’s a great way to get a little exercise before work and clear my head at the end of the day!
What gives you hope for the planet?
Seeing young people (like Greta Thunberg) demanding action on climate gives me hope and inspiration. Individual cities and states upholding environmental policies despite the current administration also gives me hope. We are not hopeless but have a lot of work to do, and I genuinely believe we are moving the right direction.
What is one thing you’re looking forward to in 2020?
I’m looking forward to spending my first spring season in Charlottesville!
